In 2024, what started as a simple drive through Colorado turned into the beginning of something much bigger.

My daughter, my cousin, and I were traveling through Colorado for work when we passed through the Grand Junction Area. Something about the area caught my attention. The landscape, the Western way of life, the opportunity, and the affordability of the area stuck with me. I started thinking, “Maybe this is where we could build a ranch.”

When we got back home, I started researching Grand Junction and the surrounding area. The more I learned, the more I liked the idea. Before long, my cousin and I were sitting down with my wife, trying to convince her that Colorado might be the place for our next chapter, building a ranch.

Then came the question: What would we call the ranch?

The answer overlooked by my cousin and I, came from our family.

My grandmother came to America from Amsterdam in 1962. Her father had served during World War II, and after the war, he made the decision to come to America in search of a better life and better opportunities for his family.

That story has always meant something to me.

So when it came time to name the ranch, I wanted to honor where my family came from while representing where we were going. We settled on Dutchmen Ranch. Which was whole heartedly my wife’s idea. But I ran with it!

Traditionally, “Dutchman” is spelled D-U-T-C-H-M-A-N. I intentionally changed it to Dutchmen because I didn't want it to represent just one person or just one ranch. I wanted it to represent all of us from my family, from my great aunt and uncle, to my cousins and our children, and the people who would eventually become part of what we are building.

That same idea became the foundation for Dutchmen Environmental and Dutchmen Transportation.

Built on Family. Driven by Hard Work.

My career has taken me through the military, industrial and environmental work, hazmat management, project management, supervision, and emergency response. I served in the Navy, worked in hazardous materials management, earned my degree in Fire Science, and spent years building experience in the environmental industry.

Over the years, I learned that successful work isn't just about having the right equipment or knowing the regulations. It's about showing up, doing the job right, taking care of people, and standing behind your word.

Those principles are what I wanted to bring into my own company.

Dutchmen Environmental was built around the idea of providing dependable environmental and industrial services without losing the personal touch that comes with a family-owned business. From spill response and industrial cleaning to waste transportation, emergency response, confined-space support, and transportation services, our goal is simple:

Do good work. Work safely. Take care of our customers. And leave things better than we found them.

Dutchmen Transportation grew from that same philosophy. Everyday I feel I am providing reliable transportation and hauling services with the same work ethic and accountability that built the rest of the company.

For me, Dutchmen isn't just a logo or a company name.

It's a connection to my grandmother, my family's journey to America, and the sacrifices that came before me. It's about taking the opportunity my family worked for and building something that can be passed down to the next generation.

What started with a drive through Grand Junction and a conversation about starting a ranch has grown into a vision for something much larger.

I want Dutchmen to be a company my kids can be proud of. I want it to create opportunities for other families. And I want every customer who calls us to know that they're dealing with people who take pride in their work and care about the reputation behind the name.

Dutchmen was never meant to be just mine.
